Job summary

Arup is seeking an experienced Senior Rail Design Manager to lead multidisciplinary design delivery across UK rail projects, ensuring technical excellence, safety, and programme adherence.

You will coordinate design from feasibility to construction support, manage interfaces and risk, and mentor the next generation of Design Managers and CEMs within a collaborative, values-led environment.

Qualifications

• Significant experience leading multidisciplinary rail design delivery from feasibility to detailed design.
• Chartered status and full corporate membership of a relevant engineering institution (ICE/IET/CIHT).
• Proven experience as a CEM-D or CEM on rail infrastructure projects with governance and compliance responsibility.
• Strong understanding of Network Rail design assurance processes and interfaces.
• Proven leadership, stakeholder management and client relationship skills.
• Commitment to technical excellence and mentoring through knowledge sharing.

Responsibilities

• Lead coordination, integration and assurance of multidisciplinary rail design services across projects.
• Establish and implement engineering management and assurance approaches (as Contractor’s Engineering Manager or equivalent).
• Lead design delivery from feasibility through construction support, managing interfaces, risk and change.
• Provide leadership across multidisciplinary teams and mentor junior staff.
• Contribute to bid leadership and work-winning activities and support business growth.
