Job summary

Arup is seeking a Senior Rail Civils Engineer in the United Kingdom to lead civil design on multidisciplinary rail projects, applying engineering judgement to develop safe and innovative solutions. The role is client-facing, driving requirements from feasibility to detailed design while ensuring quality and compliance across the team.

Qualifications

• Have a degree, HND or equivalent experience in Civil Engineering or a related discipline, ideally alongside Chartered Engineer status with a relevant professional institution such as the ICE.
• Have a sound understanding of Network Rail standards, RSSB Railway Industry Standards, CDM, CSM and Safe by Design principles, with experience as a Network Rail CRE being particularly valuable.

Responsibilities

• Lead the civil engineering input across projects, interpreting client requirements and determining appropriate design solutions from feasibility through scheme and detailed design.
• Provide technical leadership to the Rail Civils team, including reviewing drawings, calculations and technical documentation, and supporting Safe by Design, CDM and related processes.
• Mentor apprentices, graduates, technicians and engineers, sharing best practice and helping colleagues achieve professional qualifications.
• Explore digital delivery, automation, coding and AI to improve design quality, collaboration and efficiency.
