Job summary

Arup is seeking a Senior Rail Civils Engineer to join the North Rail team and lead civil engineering input across complex rail projects in the UK. You will interpret client requirements, drive feasibility through to detailed design, and maintain client relationships.

You will mentor colleagues, review technical outputs and promote innovative design solutions, with opportunities to use digital delivery, automation, and AI to improve efficiency. This role can be based in Manchester or Glasgow.

Qualifications

• Required: degree/HND in Civil Engineering or related discipline, Chartered Engineer status preferred.
• Experience delivering rail civils designs across feasibility to detailed design stages.
• Knowledge of Network Rail standards and Safe by Design principles; CRE experience valuable.

Responsibilities

• Lead civil engineering input across multidisciplinary rail projects.
• Review drawings, calculations and technical documentation; manage design risks.
• Mentor apprentices, graduates and engineers; promote best practices and digital delivery.
