Job summary

IonQ, Inc. in the United Kingdom is seeking a Quantum Scientist to join our UK Science team in Oxford.

You will validate and optimize the performance of trapped-ion quantum processors and contribute to advancing the next generation of quantum computers. The role spans designing, coding, debugging and running experiments, documenting findings, and sharing results to push system performance toward fault‑tolerant regimes.

Qualifications

• PhD in physics or related discipline with strong quantum knowledge.
• Experience calibrating, benchmarking, or coherent control of qubits.
• Proficiency in programming and data analysis (Python or Rust) and strong collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Prototype and characterize coherent control and cooling schemes for trapped-ion qubits.
• Calibrate and benchmark quantum systems to maximize gate fidelities.
• Validate emerging trap technologies including integrated electronics and photonics.
• Analyze data, debug hardware/software interactions, ensure qubit reliability.
