Job summary

IonQ, Inc. is seeking a Quantum Scientist to join the UK Science team in Oxford. You will validate and optimise the performance of quantum computers, designing, coding, debugging and executing experiments to push system performance.

Role requires a PhD in physics or related field, experience with quantum control, and strong programming/data analysis skills. The position supports a hybrid work model with flexible days in the Oxford office.

Qualifications

• PhD in physics or related discipline.
• Strong background in quantum control.
• Experience calibrating and benchmarking qubits preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prototype and characterize coherent control and cooling schemes for trapped‑ion qubits.
• Calibrate and benchmark quantum systems to achieve high fidelities.
• Validate emerging trap technologies and large‑scale architectures.
• Analyze experimental data and document findings for publication.
