Job summary

IonQ in the UK is seeking a Quantum Scientist to join the Oxford Science team. The role focuses on validating and optimizing quantum computer performance, developing control schemes, and sharing findings with the broader team.

You will design, code, and execute experiments, document results, and push system performance toward fault-tolerant regimes while collaborating with engineers and researchers in a fast-moving environment.

Qualifications

• PhD in physics or related field with strong AMO/qubit background.
• Solid background in quantum control, calibration, benchmarking, or coherent control of qubits.
• Motivated scientists who can contribute to a fast-moving, highly technical team.
• Proven expertise in experimental AMO physics or quantum computing; trapped ions experience is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Prototype and characterize coherent control and cooling schemes for trapped-ion qubits.
• Calibrate and benchmark quantum systems to achieve high fidelities.
• Validate emerging trap technologies including integrated electronics and photonics.
• Analyse data, debug hardware/software, and ensure reliability of qubit operations.
