Job summary

IonQ in Oxford, UK, seeks a Quantum Scientist to join our UK Science team and advance the development of next-generation quantum computers. You will validate and optimise computer performance, design and execute experiments, and document findings to push system capabilities forward.

Qualifications

• PhD in physics or related field.
• Strong background in quantum control and calibration/benchmarking of qubits.
• Postdoc or industry experience is valuable but applicants from PhD directly are also welcome.

Responsibilities

• Prototype and characterize coherent control and cooling schemes for trapped-ion qubits.
• Calibrate and benchmark quantum systems to maximise fidelities of circuits.
• Validate emerging trap technologies, including electronics and photonics for large-scale architectures.
• Analyse experimental data, debug hardware/software interactions, and ensure reliability of qubit operations.
