Job summary

Bury Council is seeking a construction project manager to lead a multi-year programme of refurbishment, redevelopment and backlog maintenance across its education and public property estate.

You will coordinate consultants, contractors and internal teams, manage budgets and timelines, and exercise care delivering works in occupied buildings while minimising disruption for users and front-line services.

Qualifications

• Experience of supporting or managing construction projects through key stages of delivery.
• A collaborative and organised approach, with the confidence to take ownership and address issues early.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships with elected members, officers, service users, consultants and contractors.
• An understanding of the care needed when delivering works in occupied buildings and settings supporting sensitive front-line services.
• A commitment to learning, continuous improvement and public service.

Responsibilities

• Manage a varied portfolio of construction projects from early definition and planning through procurement, delivery, handover and close-out.
• Coordinate consultants, contractors, internal services and other stakeholders to achieve safe, high-quality and value-for-money outcomes.
• Plan works carefully around live and sensitive services, minimising disruption and keeping building users informed.
• Procure construction works within Public Sector procurement guidelines.
• Work closely with colleagues in Asset Management and Facilities Management to support redevelopment and backlog maintenance priorities.
• Provide practical construction advice to service departments and external partners, including education stakeholders.
