Job summary

Grant Thornton UK is seeking a Senior Public Sector Audit Complaints and Objections Manager to lead and resolve complaints arising from local audit work. The role requires sound regulatory judgement, strong technical audit expertise and excellent stakeholder management.

You’ll report to the Public Sector Audit Partner lead, work across the local audit practice, and help shape internal guidance while representing the firm externally in formal correspondence and with regulators.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA or equivalent)
• Local government or public sector audit experience
• Knowledge of the LAAA 2014 and the National Audit Code
• Strong written communication and analytical skills
• Confident stakeholder and relationship management
• Ability to manage multiple complex matters simultaneously
• A curiosity about public accountability and a commitment to the public interest are essential

Responsibilities

• Lead complaints handling for local audit, ensuring robust responses with evidence; engage complainants, internal audit, and regulators.
• Manage end-to-end local elector objections under the Local Audit and Accountability Act 2014.
• Act as key contact for whistleblowing disclosures in audited bodies.
• Respond to matters raised by electors; liaise with teams for follow-up within statutory timescales.
