Job summary

Egis is seeking a Principal Engineer (P&C) to lead, review, and approve Protection and Control design submissions for National Grid and DNO projects in the UK. You will ensure HV infrastructure designs—substations, transformers, switchgear, and HV cables—comply with standards and regulatory requirements, coordinating with internal teams and contractors.

Experience in UK Electricity Transmission/Distribution is preferred.

Qualifications

• HNC or degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems or related field.
• Proven experience in P&C design, design assurance, or technical approval.
• Strong knowledge of HV infrastructure including substations, transformers, switchgear, and HV cables.

Responsibilities

• Review and assess P&C design submissions for compliance with National Grid / DNO policies, procedures and engineering standards.
• Provide detailed feedback and recommendations to address design gaps, non-compliance, or potential risks.
• Approve final designs once all technical, safety, and regulatory requirements are met.
• Chair design review meetings with a variety of stakeholders.
• Coordinate and technical interface with other engineering disciplines.
