Job summary

EGIS is seeking a Design Assurance Engineer to lead BP141 design assurance across UK National Grid projects, ensuring compliant designs for substations, HV plants, and protection systems. The role collaborates with project teams, DNOs and contractors to deliver safe, reliable engineering solutions.

Qualifications

• Essential: HNC or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related discipline.
• Essential: National Grid BP141 Design Assurance Engineer authorisation.
• Essential: Chartered Engineer status or working towards CEng accreditation.
• Essential: Proven experience in infrastructure design, design assurance, or technical approval within the Electricity Transmission and/or DNO sector.

Responsibilities

• Review and assess design submissions, ensuring compliance with National Grid, technical specifications, procedures and engineering standards.
• Provide detailed feedback and recommendations to address design gaps, non-compliance, or potential risks.
• Support completion of design pack DCAAR once all technical, safety, and regulatory requirements are met.
• Engage in regular project design review meetings with a variety of stakeholders.
• Coordinate and technically interface with other design assurance engineering disciplines.
• Serve as the primary point of contact between National Grid’s Project Team and Contractor Design Teams regarding design matters.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including asset management, project delivery teams, and other engineering disciplines, to ensure design alignment with project objectives.
• Participate in design coordination meetings, workshops, and technical reviews with contractors and suppliers.
• Identify potential risks related to safety, reliability, and performance in contractor designs and recommend corrective actions.
• Ensure that Contractor Design Teams have incorporated appropriate risk mitigation measures.
• Experience of implementing safety by design and CDM awareness.
• Maintain comprehensive records of design submissions, review comments and DCAAR acceptances in accordance with BP188.
• Review technical reports and assurance documentation related to design pack submission.
• Monitor performance related to design quality and compliance, providing feedback to management as needed.
• Experience of working to a structured project design process and compliance with BP188 timescales to support the project.
