Job Introduction

This critical role will enable the BBC to increase consumption of its digital product and services by delivering MarTech capabilities through a newly acquired Customer Data Platform (CDP).

The role will enable the BBC to get value from the CDP in its paid, owned and CRM channels. The person will strategically define the marketing & media use cases within the CDP, shape the product roadmap and technically manage the successful adoption of the CDP within the BBC’s MarTech stack.

You will have technical experience working with CDPs (preferably mParticle) and a good understanding of the paid, owned and CRM opportunities. You also have experience influencing and persuading marketing, product and data stakeholders to see your ideas and make them happen.

Main Responsibilities

This person will be responsible for designing and collaborating with teams of technical data engineers and architects to enable the foundational components of our mParticle CDP. The ideal candidate has an established track record of managing a CDP.

  • Consult with CRM, Owned Media, and Paid Media to gather use case requirements, advise on how to unlock more value, prioritise and translate them into technical data requests.
  • Identify user data, content metadata, and campaign data to ingest into the CDP, and how this data delivers audience targeting, campaign optimization, and post-campaign measurement.
  • Maintain and build new data egress to external partners to deliver owned, CRM and paid media campaigns. These will include Airship (for Email, Push Notifications and In-App Messages), Owned APIs for Display & Video in BBC websites/apps and various Paid Advertisers (e.g. Meta, TikTok, Google, Snapchat).
  • Work closely with Customer Data, Product Data, and Data Warehouse teams to recommend and deliver the optimal platform access & management, data ingest/egress and hosting, and data model & management.
  • Provide campaign tracking and measurement that aligns to BBC’s analytics platforms.
  • The role will apply this data infrastructure to enable campaign creation, orchestration and activation across the BBC’s owned, CRM and paid media channels.
  • This role will also oversee the daily operations and administration of the CDP during integration and ongoing.
  • Ensure CDP is centrally connected to all aspects of the BBC’s wider mar tech and ad tech stack, including but not limited to campaign management, analytics, data warehouses, campaign tagging, asset management, mobile measurement, conversion APIs and clean rooms.
Are you the right candidate?

The role will apply this data infrastructure to enable campaign creation, orchestration and activation across the BBC’s owned, CRM and paid media channels.

  • Enable the capabilities to unify the user’s consumption of BBC digital services, predicting likely next actions and executing interventions (next best action) which flow into campaign activity.
  • Develop capabilities to optimise paid, owned & CRM campaigns in flight to improve efficiencies.
  • Develop and improve the CDP’s Campaign Creation, Orchestration & Activation capabilities for Paid, Owned & CRM teams to create custom audiences for campaigns. The audiences can either through segmentation and/or 1:1 targeting, and orchestration can be ad hoc or ongoing journeys that can be executed through multi-channel communications across Paid (via Ads Managers), Owned (Video – trailers & pre-rolls & Display) and CRM (Push Notifications, In-app messaging and email).
  • Develop capabilities to ensure analysis of campaign performance as well as engagement by user, channel and service

This role will also oversee the daily operations and administration of the CDP during integration and ongoing:

  • Provide ongoing support and training to mParticle end-users, ensuring they can utilise the platform effectively for their needs.
  • Ensure BBC contractual volumes remain under threshold, and mitigating/escalating commercial risks.
  • Define the quarterly roadmap with supplier, ensuring resource efficiencies for use of professional services and support functions.
  • Troubleshoot, triage and escalate incidents in service.
  • Produce regular performance reports and making recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Work with the Data & Engineering teams to ensure smooth platform performance and adherence to data hygiene standards.
  • Develop and updating documentation for process flows, user guides, blueprints, and more.
  • Maintain profile and segmentation definitions, activation schedules, and destination integrations.
  • Ensure CDP operations adhere to data privacy laws (GDPR, etc.) and comply with BBC's data governance policies.
