Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Senior/Principal Structural Engineer to support its Nuclear & Defence portfolio in the UK. You will lead solving complex heavy civil structures, supervise design teams, and contribute to safety-critical facilities across major programmes with a global client base including EDF, MoD, and Rolls‑Royce SMR.

This role offers hybrid working (3 days office/site) with offices in London, Birmingham and other locations.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering with Chartered status.
• Proven experience in design and delivery of heavy civil structures in nuclear/defence.
• Strong knowledge of reinforced concrete, structural steel, foundations, and underground structures.
• Experience leading and coordinating teams on multidisciplinary projects.
• Strong stakeholder management and collaborative communication.
• Ability to mentor engineers and graduates.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate structural teams on nuclear/defence projects for safe, high-quality delivery.
• Provide technical leadership for heavy civil design (concrete, steel, foundations, underground).
• Produce and review calculations, reports, drawings.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and international delivery centres.
• Apply engineering judgement to solve complex challenges.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote technical excellence.
• Build relationships with clients and stakeholders to ensure project success.
