Job summary

Matchtech is seeking a Senior Primary Engineer to join its Transmission and Distribution team in Scotland on a permanent basis. The role delivers senior technical engineering services for HV and extra HV substation projects across T&D, renewables, onshore and offshore wind, solar and BESS developments.

You will lead primary engineering deliverables for 11kV to 400kV substations, develop AIS and GIS layouts, perform busbar sizing and short-circuit analyses, and liaise with clients and project

Qualifications

• Degree-level qualification in electrical engineering or related discipline.
• Significant experience in substation primary engineering within T&D, renewables or BESS projects.
• Strong knowledge of 275kV and 400kV substation design, AIS and GIS.

Responsibilities

• Lead primary engineering deliverables for substations from 11kV to 400kV, focusing on 132kV and above.
• Prepare proposals, scopes, execution plans and detailed design packages.
• Develop AIS and GIS layouts, land use, elevations, conduit layouts, earthing and protection.
• Perform busbar sizing, sag and tension assessments, and short-circuit calculations.
• Coordinate with civil, networks and lines teams; conduct design reviews with clients.
• Produce technical reports and FEED-stage deliverables in line with standards.
• Monitor progress, perform technical checks, and support multiple project teams.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring; promote Safety by Design and process improvement.
