Matchtech in Scotland is seeking a Senior Protection and Control Engineer to join its UK Energy business on a permanent basis. You will design protection and control schemes for 275kV and 400kV transmission and distribution networks, contributing to major infrastructure projects supporting the Net Zero transition.

You will work with project teams across substations, overhead lines, and digital protection systems, producing drawings and calculations, and ensuring compliance with industry

Qualifications

• Experience as a Protection & Control Engineer within transmission, distribution or substation environments.
• Proven experience designing protection and control schemes for 275kV and 400kV networks.
• HNC or HND in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent qualification.
• Knowledge of IEC 61850 and IEC 60870 communication protocols.
• Understanding of applicable engineering standards and safety requirements.
• Ability to interpret technical documentation and produce detailed design information.
• Familiarity with substation equipment suppliers (ABB, Hitachi, Siemens, GE).
• Chartered Engineer status or National Grid BP141 authorisation would be advantageous.

Responsabilités

• Design protection and control systems for high-voltage transmission and distribution networks.
• Develop engineering drawings and specifications using AutoCAD and ETAP.
• Perform technical calculations and system studies to verify performance.
• Ensure designs meet engineering standards, safety and environmental requirements.
• Conduct site surveys and gather information for design development.
• Collaborate with project managers, electrical engineers and construction teams.
• Review design changes and support installation, testing and commissioning.
• Perform design reviews and QA checks and stay updated on protection/control technology advances.
