An established healthcare provider in London is seeking a dedicated Practitioner Psychologist to join their Cancer Psychological Services team. This role focuses on enhancing the psychological wellbeing of cancer patients and their families through direct care and multidisciplinary collaboration. The successful candidate will engage in service development and provide training to the workforce, contributing to a high-performing NHS trust renowned for its commitment to excellence and innovation. This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact in a supportive and inclusive environment, while also benefiting from ongoing professional development opportunities.
We are pleased to advertise this new 8a Practitioner Psychologist position within the well-established, multiprofessional Cancer Psychological Services (CPS) team based at St Bartholomew’s Hospital (SBH) in the City of London.
The role involves contributing psychological thinking and providing direct patient care across cancer pathways at Barts Health, with a focus on working closely with the haemato-oncology multidisciplinary team (MDT) as part of the allogenic stem-cell transplant and CAR-T therapy pathways at SBH. Additionally, the role emphasizes disseminating psychological knowledge and skills throughout the cancer workforce via training, consultation, and supervision.
CPS collaborates with other psychological professionals across Barts Health, offering opportunities for the post holder to support the development of psychological services within the trust, engage in funded Continuing Professional Development (CPD), and join specialist psychotherapeutic supervision groups (e.g., ACT, CFT, Narrative, EMDR).
There is potential for additional sessions within cancer, cardiac, and respiratory services at SBH if needed.
The post involves providing clinical services to both inpatients and outpatients and working closely with cancer MDT colleagues. While the service often provides direct support to individuals requiring specialist psychological intervention, the primary aim is to improve the psychological wellbeing of all cancer and palliative care patients and their families through sharing psychological knowledge, skills, and service development. Applicants should be skilled in and enthusiastic about multidisciplinary working. The post may also include line management and supervision responsibilities for qualified and unqualified team members.
Experience working with individuals diagnosed with cancer or other life-limiting conditions, especially in multicultural settings, is highly desirable.
The successful candidate will be expected to work on Thursdays to attend the WPPC and on another day that suits both the applicant and the service.
