Main duties of the job

The post-holder will undertake fault-finding and maintenance duties, responsible for maintaining all building fabric, mechanical, electrical services, and equipment within the trust properties.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Ensuring compliance with health and safety controls, asbestos, COSHH, and permit-to-work systems, reporting unsafe practices or faulty equipment.
  2. Following departmental and trust policies and procedures.
  3. Working independently within standard operating procedures, prioritising tasks effectively.
  4. Communicating technical information clearly, especially to non-specialists.
  5. Holding CP accreditations and performing authorized person duties, with appropriate training and experience.
  6. Participating in the estates on-call rota across various trust sites.

Qualifications

  • Recognized apprenticeship (City & Guild 236/NVQ level 3, BTEC, ONC/HNC, or equivalent).
  • Level 3 NVQs in Mechanical Engineering Services—Heating and Ventilating, or BTEC/ONC or equivalent.
  • Experience with hospital plumbing systems.

Experience

  • NHS hospital environment or similar.
  • Building maintenance and systems.
  • Working on specialist hospital equipment.
  • Lone working experience.
  • Following detailed engineering/electrical drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of H&S legislation and hospital-specific standards (HTMs).
  • Understanding hospital Health Building Notes (HBN).
