Job Description:

Job overview

We are pleased to be advertising this new 8a Practitioner Psychologist posts within the well-established, multiprofessional Cancer Psychological Services (CPS) team based at St Bartholomew’s Hospital (SBH) in the City of London.

The role will contribute psychological thinking and direct patient care to cancer pathways across Barts Health but there will be an emphasis on working closely with the haemato-oncology MDT as part of the allogenic stem-cell transplant/ CAR-T therapy pathways based at SBH.In addition to direct patient work, there is a strong emphasis within the team on disseminating psychological knowledge and skills across the cancer workforce through training, consultation, and supervision.

CPS is connected with the many other psychological professionals working across Barts Health, with opportunities for the post holder to support the development of psychological services across the trust, funded CPD and joining a specialist psychotherapeutic supervision group (eg ACT, CFT, Narrative, EMDR).

There is the potential for further sessions of work within cancer, cardiac & respiratory services at SBH if required.

Main duties of the job

The role will involve providing a clinical service to both inpatients and outpatients and close working with cancer MDT colleagues. Though the service frequently provides direct support to individuals requiring specialist psychological intervention, our overarching aim is to improve the psychological wellbeing of all cancer/ palliative care patients and their families through the sharing of psychological knowledge and skills and service developments. Applicants should therefore be skilled and keen to engage in multi-disciplinary working. The post holder may also be expected to provide line management and supervision to both qualified and unqualified members of the team.

Experience of working with people who have been diagnosed with cancer or other life limiting conditions and in multi-cultural settings is highly desirable.

There will be a requirement for the successful candidate to work on a Thursday to attend the WPPC and one other day that works for both the successful applicant and the service
