Job summary

Moderna is seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to join the Harwell manufacturing site in the UK, focusing on packaging automation and DS manufacturing. You will troubleshoot PLCs, DeltaV, HMIs, and related systems while advancing labeling, serialization, and packaging capabilities.

The role requires hands-on technical leadership across design, commissioning, validation, and continuous improvement, collaborating with Quality, Validation, and Digital teams in a fast-paced GMP environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level technical degree in a related discipline.
• 3+ years automation engineering in regulated manufacturing.
• Experience with GMP/GxP environments and formal change controls.
• Ability to troubleshoot multi-discipline equipment and communicate clearly.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on automation support across drug product packaging and DS manufacturing.
• Troubleshoot DeltaV, PLCs, HMIs, sensors, networks, and motion systems.
• Lead accessory packaging equipment upgrades, labeling, serialization, and inspection assets.
• Support equipment setup, changeovers, recipe management, and line readiness.
• Deliver projects from design through FAT/SAT, commissioning, and validation.
• Maintain validated systems with documentation, risk assessments, and SOPs.
