Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a senior/principal ecologist with a special interest in ornithology to join our ecology team across the UK. You will lead ornithological surveys, provide expert advice to clients, and work within multidisciplinary teams to ensure ecological input is integrated into projects.

Flexible, hybrid working across the UK is supported. The role involves steering complex projects, developing staff, and contributing to bids and strategy.

Qualifications

• Background in terrestrial ecology with experience in technical reporting and impact assessment
• Good bird identification skills and understanding of bird survey techniques
• Experience in scoping and executing field surveys and data analysis
• Full membership of a professional body (or eligible for chartership)
• Inquisitiveness and willingness to learn
• High level of personal responsibility
• Ability to write clear and concise reports

Responsibilities

• Deliver challenging, diverse projects across sectors including transport, water and energy
• Work in multidisciplinary teams to ensure ornithological requirements are recognised and acted upon
• Lead ornithological surveys and provide expert client advice, with scope to support other ecological surveys as needed
• Support Environmental Impact Assessment and Habitats Regulations Appraisals
• Combine desk and site-based tasks and travel across the UK, including some overnight stays
