Job summary

BEAR Scotland Limited seeks a Network Bridges Manager to lead bridge engineering and maintenance for South East trunk road projects. You will own strategy, design, and delivery of complex structures, overseeing 850+ assets and driving safe, reliable infrastructure across Scotland.

This senior role requires Chartered Engineer status, proven leadership, strong stakeholder skills, and a valid UK driving licence. Hybrid working supported with office and field collaboration.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
• Chartered Engineer status (CEng, MICE or MIStructE)
• Extensive experience in bridge design, assessment, and maintenance
• Proven leadership experience managing technical teams and complex projects
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
• Full UK driving licence
• Experience working within a trunk road or highway maintenance environment
• Knowledge of Transport Scotland standards and requirements
• Experience working with NEC or similar contracts

Responsibilities

• Driving the planning, design, procurement, and delivery of structural maintenance works
• Leading bridge refurbishment, strengthening, and bearing replacement projects
• Managing internal teams, consultants, contractors, and key stakeholders
• Ensuring compliance with technical, safety, environmental, and contractual standards
• Support the Operating Company’s Representative to ensure delivery of the Director’s requirements
• Act as the main liaison with Transport Scotland, ensuring compliance with the Network Management Contract
• Work with Network Manager and Journey Time Reliability Coordinator to minimise traffic disruption
• Collaborate with Planned Maintenance and Operations Managers to integrate structural requirements into maintenance planning
• Oversee outline and detailed design of bridge maintenance schemes, including technical approval and certification
• Ensure adherence to Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality standards
• Maintain robust risk assessments and liaise with clients and auditors
