Job summary

ASOS is building the next generation of AI-powered search and discovery for millions of customers. You will design, build and operate the ML platforms and services that train, deploy and serve models at scale.

You’ll collaborate with scientists, software engineers, data engineers and product managers to enable reliable deployment, monitoring and platform evolution across ASOS's recommendations, search and AI systems.

Qualifications

• Production systems designed and built at scale.
• Experience with distributed systems or microservices.
• Strong programming skills in Python, Java, Kotlin, Go or Scala.
• Experience with AWS/Azure/GCP environments.
• Hands-on with Kubernetes and cloud-native tech.
• CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment experience.
• Infrastructure-as-Code with Terraform, Pulumi or CloudFormation.
• Experience with monitoring, alerting and observability tooling.
• Building reliable, scalable systems with performance focus.
• Experience with data-intensive systems and large-scale processing.
• Exposure to ML systems, model serving and MLOps practices.
• Knowledge of recommender/search/personalisation data products advantageous.
• Comfortable providing technical leadership and architectural direction.
• Strong collaboration and cross-functional teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable ML platforms and infrastructure for training, deployment and serving.
• Develop highly available backend services powering recommendations, search and personalisation.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for ML and data products.
• Design batch and real-time inference architectures using cloud-native tech.
• Improve reliability, observability and performance of ML workloads.
• Create tooling and frameworks for safe model deployment by data scientists and engineers.
• Own production services and manage incident response and RCA.
• Optimise distributed compute across cloud environments.
• Advance Infrastructure-as-Code adoption and standardisation.
• Contribute to architectural decisions across ML, search and AI platforms.
• Mentor engineers and promote best software engineering practices.
• Help shape ASOS's long-term ML platform strategy.
