Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Water team in the UK, based in Birmingham, Redditch or Derby. You will lead mechanical design for major water and wastewater projects, mentor engineers and deliver sustainable engineering solutions across the UK.

You will deliver feasibility to construction support, produce calculations and specs, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure high‑quality outcomes.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (CEng/IEng) or actively working towards.
• Experience delivering mechanical engineering design within the water sector or another regulated infrastructure industry.
• Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, engineering standards and industry best practice.
• Experience delivering technical design packages across multidisciplinary engineering projects.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience mentoring or supporting junior engineers.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

• Deliver mechanical design activities from feasibility through to detailed design and construction support.
• Produce and review mechanical calculations, specs, schedules, reports and documentation.
• Lead the design of pumping stations, water and wastewater treatment works, pipelines and associated mechanical infrastructure.
• Undertake site visits, surveys and technical investigations as required.
• Collaborate with electrical, process, civil and structural engineers for integrated solutions.
• Guide clients, contractors and internal stakeholders while mentoring developing engineers.
