Job summary

STEMCELL Technologies, Inc. in Cambridge, UK is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Instrumentation UK engineering team.

You will lead mechanical design efforts for next-generation cell-sorting instruments, combining precision mechanics, optics, electronics, and microfluidics, and ensure design for manufacture. You will mentor engineers, manage supplier partnerships, support quality in a regulated environment (ISO 13485), and use SolidWorks for 3D design and documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline with 6-10 years of relevant experience.
• Master's with 4-8 years or PhD with 2-5 years.
• Strong DFM/DFA application to injection-molded components and assemblies.
• Experience in a regulated environment (e.g. ISO 13485) with change control.
• Proficient in CAD (SolidWorks) for 3D design and drawings.
• Advanced GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical engineering activities for current consumables, managing lifecycle design updates and continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring all changes are rigorously verified and seamlessly transferred to production and scaled appropriately.
• Lead the design and development of the consumables and instrument sub-assemblies for next generation instruments.
• Scope and manage technical partnerships with specialist suppliers acting as the primary engineering lead for supplier evaluation, design transfer, and quality verification.
• Support quality initiatives within our regulated environment, leading mechanical root-cause investigations and implementing corrective and preventive actions to ensure ongoing product reliability and manufacturing excellence.
• Design, develop, and test precision mechanical, opto-mechanical, and electro-mechanical systems using SolidWorks.
