Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland is seeking a Director of Maritime Engineering to lead the Maritime Engineering team, shaping performance, technical direction and growth across the UK, Ireland, Europe and selected international markets.

You will oversee major commissions, manage budgets, drive technical governance and ensure safety and regulatory compliance while building a high-performing, inclusive team.

Qualifications

• Significant senior leadership experience in maritime, ports or terminal engineering.
• Demonstrable people-management experience including recruitment, performance management and succession planning.
• Proven accountability for cost-centre, budget or business-unit performance including forecasting and resource planning.
• Track record as Project Director, technical director or equivalent on major commissions with accountability for programme, cost, quality, risk and client satisfaction.
• Strong credentials across port and marine infrastructure such as marine structures, terminal planning and civil works.

Responsibilities

• Own overall performance of the Maritime Engineering team with clear priorities and accountability.
• Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing, inclusive team; foster collaboration and innovation; maintain succession plans.
• Provide oversight for major commissions, ensuring scope, programme, budget, quality and contractual obligations are achieved.
• Own cost-centre performance, departmental budgets, forecasting and efficient resource allocation.
• Maintain portfolio profitability, work in progress, debt, variation and change control; monitor commercial risk and recovery actions.
• Set and uphold technical standards, design governance and ensure appropriate technical authority is assigned to commissions.
• Ensure delivery complies with health and safety, regulatory requirements and client quality expectations.
• Identify, own and mitigate risks and opportunities across the portfolio; promote continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
• Promote emerging technology, digital delivery, decarbonisation and modern methods of design and delivery.
