Job summary

Cheshire East Council is seeking a Senior Library Assistant to supervise Library Assistants and ensure smooth operation of the branch. The role covers staffing, financial processes and deputising for the Library Manager, with hybrid duties across Nantwich and Crewe Libraries.

You will deliver a compliant, efficient, high‑quality library and customer access service, acting as a first point of contact for customers and supporting digital access.

Qualifications

• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Experience in a public library environment.
• Ability to supervise a small team and work collaboratively.
• Confidence using IT systems and supporting customers with digital access.
• A genuine interest in books, learning, and community engagement.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day library operations, staffing and financial processes.
• deputise for the Library Manager and act as responsible person for the building when needed.
• Supervise Library Assistants and oversee daily routines, provide front-line customer service.
• Handle enquiries, resolve issues and support customer access services.
• Organise activities and maintain admin processes, finance and business systems; support wider council services.
