Cheshire East Council is seeking a Senior Library Assistant to supervise Library Assistants and ensure smooth operation of the branch. The role covers staffing, financial processes and deputising for the Library Manager, with hybrid duties across Nantwich and Crewe Libraries.
You will deliver a compliant, efficient, high‑quality library and customer access service, acting as a first point of contact for customers and supporting digital access.
The Senior Library Assistant supervises Library Assistants and ensures the smooth running of a branch, responsible for property issues, banking and timetabling staff to deliver excellent customer service.
An exciting opportunity has become available to work in Cheshire East Libraries as a Senior Library Assistant. This involves splitting your time between Nantwich and Crewe Libraries, based at Nantwich Library 0.47 FTE (17.5 hours) over a two-week timetable as follows:
Week 1: Monday 9:30-17:00 Nantwich, Friday 9:00-18:00 Crewe, Saturday 9:00-13:00 Nantwich
Week 2:Monday 9:30-17:00 Nantwich, Friday 9:00-18:00 Crewe
As a Senior Library Assistant, you will take responsibility for the day‑to‑day operation of the library, including staffing and financial processes, while deputising for the Library Manager as required and, at times, acting as the responsible person for the building. You will play a key role in ensuring the delivery of a compliant, efficient and high‑quality library and customer access service, while supervising Library Assistants and overseeing daily routines. As a prominent front‑facing member of staff, you will act as a first point of contact for customers, confidently handling enquiries and resolving issues. You will also be responsible for overseeing administrative processes, finance and business systems. In addition, you may organise and deliver activities, contribute to maintaining a welcoming and safe community environment, and support the delivery of wider council services through the customer service point. Flexibility is essential, as you may occasionally be required to work at different locations across Cheshire East to support operational needs.
