Job description

GLL is currently recruiting two Senior Library Assistants to join the team in the London Borough of Wandsworth, both working 33 hours per week. The role will work across three libraries: Battersea Park, Roehampton, and York Gardens Library, making this a very exciting and varied role.

Role Overview

As a Senior Library Assistant, you will work in three busy, community-focused libraries, providing access to a wide variety of collections and resources including books, public access computers, and local studies reference collections.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure visitors are welcomed into a clean, safe, and attractive environment with useful facilities.
• Engage with visitors to understand their needs and help them discover resources and services.
• Assist with activities such as discovering new authors, tracing ancestry, and delivering engaging children's activities.
• Support visitors in using IT systems to find jobs or access resources.

What You Need

• Experience working within libraries (desirable).
• Evidence of making a positive impact on customers.
• Confident IT skills and knowledge.
• Excellent numeracy, literacy, and communication skills.
• Experience with Library Management systems (useful but not essential).
• A strong focus on customer service.
• Passion, personality, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work well in a team.

What You’ll Do

• Work as part of the team to ensure smooth library operations.
• Provide a warm welcome and support visitors to maximize their experience.
• Design and deliver engaging children's activities, including storytime, rhyme time, and crafts for under 5s.
• Follow safeguarding policies and procedures for children and vulnerable adults.
• Adhere to operating procedures and relevant policies.
• Interact with customers through conversations and support their needs.
• Participate in training and development opportunities.
