Job description

Casual hours per week

We are looking to recruit two additional relief library assistants to work in the council's libraries across the Island – in Cowes, Freshwater, Newport, Ryde, Sandown, and Ventnor.

The main duties include welcoming users, assisting them in finding books and information, and helping them make full use of the libraries' ICT facilities. Relief library assistants also support Library Supervisors and Senior Assistants in daily operations, help manage book stock, promote libraries to local communities, and work effectively with volunteers.

We seek candidates with customer-facing experience in libraries or retail, excellent communication and ICT skills, including research abilities. Willingness to engage in activities with adults and children, and a positive, outgoing attitude are essential.

Essential qualifications are 5 GCSEs or equivalent at Grade C/4 and above, including English and Maths, and ECDL or equivalent computer skills.
