We are currently looking for a Senior Legal Counsel to join our highly regarded Group Legal Team on a permanent basis in London. This role will support a team of in-house lawyers providing strategic legal advice, guidance, and support across Royal London's Asset Management business.

As part of the Extended Leadership team of the Group Legal function, this role will support the Divisional Counsel in leading a team of in-house lawyers, offering strategic legal advice, guidance, and support to Royal London's Asset Management Division.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a growing team where you will undertake a range of legal activities, leveraging your knowledge to support the Asset Management division and develop key relationships across the wider Royal London Group. You will work alongside experienced legal professionals who promote development and continuous learning.

About the role

1. Provide commercial and strategic legal advice and support to internal stakeholders on asset management activities, especially supporting RLAM's Private Asset teams (including public and private ABS, Private Placements, CLO origination, Real Estate, and Commercial Real Estate Finance).
2. Identify, manage, and mitigate legal risks, offering proactive and pragmatic solutions.
3. Collaborate with external counsel cost-effectively, ensuring advice is obtained, challenged when appropriate, and communicated clearly to internal teams in a strategic manner.
4. The role includes:
   • Supporting domestic and international structured finance and private asset transactions, advising on related fund and investment structures;
   • Providing advice on applicable regulation, e.g., EU and UK securitisation regulations;
   • Drafting, negotiating, and analyzing transactional documentation such as non-disclosure agreements, loan documentation, note purchase agreements, real estate sale and purchase agreements, lease agreements, CLO warehouse, and related documentation.

About you

• A collaborative, commercial, and pragmatic asset management solicitor with experience in private assets.
• Significant PQE or equivalent experience gained in a leading law firm and/or in-house.
• Excellent practical and technical knowledge, including public/private ABS, Private Credit, and/or CLOs. Experience with real estate funds and commercial real estate finance is advantageous.
• Proactive and pragmatic, taking ownership and accountability for providing commercial legal solutions.
• Strong understanding of corporate governance principles, FCA/PRA regulations, and their impact on the RL Group.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of engaging stakeholders at all levels.
