Job Description:

We are currently looking for a Senior Legal Counsel to join our highly regarded Group Legal Team on a permanent basis in London. This role will support Royal London’s Asset Management business by providing strategic legal advice, guidance, and support.

As part of the Extended Leadership team of the Group Legal function, this role will support the Divisional Counsel in leading a team of in-house lawyers, offering strategic legal advice and guidance across the Asset Management Division.

This is a great opportunity to join a growing team, undertaking a variety of legal activities, supporting the Asset Management division, and developing key relationships within Royal London Group. You will work alongside experienced legal professionals committed to development and continuous learning.

About the role

• Provide commercial and strategic legal advice to internal stakeholders on asset management activities, including supporting RLAM’s Private Asset teams (public/private ABS, Private Placements, CLO origination, Real Estate, and Commercial Real Estate Finance).
• Identify, manage, and mitigate legal risks, offering pragmatic solutions.
• Collaborate with external counsel cost-effectively, ensuring advice is clear and actionable, and communicate it effectively internally.
• Support domestic and international structured finance and private asset transactions, advising on related fund and investment structures.
• Provide advice on applicable regulations, such as EU and UK securitisation regulations.
• Draft, negotiate, and analyze transactional documentation, including NDAs, loan agreements, note purchase agreements, real estate sale/purchase agreements, lease agreements, and CLO documentation.

About you

• A collaborative, pragmatic asset management solicitor with private assets experience.
• Significant PQE or equivalent experience in a leading law firm or in-house.
• Strong knowledge of public/private ABS, Private Credit, CLOs, real estate funds, and finance.
• Proactive, accountable, and capable of delivering commercial solutions.
• Understanding of corporate governance and FCA/PRA regulations affecting the RL Group.
• Excellent communication skills and stakeholder management at all levels.
