Job summary

Scrumconnect Consulting in Swansea is seeking a Lead Software Developer to design, build, and maintain high-quality software for UK government clients. You will lead a multidisciplinary team within a governed, secure, and scalable environment, delivering Spring Boot services and modern Java solutions.

The role involves architectural leadership, data access design, and collaboration with product managers and designers to deliver citizen‑facing digital services.

Qualifications

• Strong experience designing, building, and operating production software systems using Java and Spring Boot.
• Practical experience with Spring Data JPA, including ORM mapping, entities, repositories, auditing, and transactions.
• Experience building robust data access layers for enterprise apps.
• Experience integrating modern Java/Spring Boot with legacy SOAP/XML systems.
• Understanding modernisation patterns like the Strangler Fig pattern.
• Hands-on with AWS cloud services (EKS, RDS, S3) and data processing.
• Familiar with CI/CD and code reviews; strong debugging and observability skills.
• Experience working in agile or hybrid delivery models (Scrum/Kanban).
• Comfortable on-call, incident response, and production support.

Responsibilities

• Lead development across one or more teams and ensure delivery of high‑quality services.
• Provide technical leadership on Spring Boot, Spring Data JPA, and data access layers.
• Guide engineering practices, coding standards, and maintainability.
• Oversee integration of Java services with Legacy SOAP/XML systems and Strangler Fig patterns.
• Architect, build, and optimise robust data access layers and services.
• Drive performance, including database tuning and caching optimisations.
• Lead overnight batch processing design and operational resilience.
• Mentor developers, promote engineering best practices, and share knowledge.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and architects to deliver user‑centred services.
