Job summary

Scrumconnect Consulting in Swansea is seeking a Lead Software Developer to design, build, and maintain high-quality software to help UK government clients solve problems and deliver value for citizens and the public sector. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary agile team, delivering user-centred digital services that meet Government Digital Service (GDS) standards and accessibility requirements.

Qualifications

• Strong experience designing, building, and operating production software systems.
• Experience with test-driven development, CI/CD, and code reviews.
• Knowledge of information security principles and secure-by-default engineering.
• Experience with complex systems design and integration.
• Comfort with on-call, incident response, and observability.
• User-focused collaboration with designers and product teams.
• Experience in agile or hybrid delivery models.
• Experience with high-volume transactional digital services.

Responsibilities

• Lead development across one or a small number of related teams.
• Guide engineering practices, ways of working, and quality standards.
• Be proficient across a wide range of technical systems and identify the right tooling and approaches.
• Make architectural and build-vs-buy decisions in collaboration with the Technical Architect.
• Provide technical leadership, coaching, and mentoring across the engagement.
• Contribute to the Scrumconnect developer community and promote the adoption of good practices.
• Act as a senior on-call responder and drive long-term resilience improvements.
