Job summary

Cathcart Technology seeks a skilled Java engineer in the UK to join a remote-first engineering team building large-scale, secure platforms. You will contribute from conception through production, with a strong emphasis on TDD/XP, mentoring peers and raising engineering standards.

Working in a cross-functional Scrum team, you’ll collaborate with Product Managers, UX Designers and Test Analysts, while occasional office visits in South Manchester support collaboration and knowledge sharing.

Qualifications

• Strong commercial Java development experience.
• Experience delivering complex features end-to-end.
• Commitment to clean, maintainable and well-tested code.
• Experience with, or genuine interest in, TDD and XP practices
• Enjoyment of pairing, mentoring and sharing knowledge with other Engineers
• Comfort contributing to technical discussions and challenging existing approaches
• Experience working within collaborative Agile engineering teams
• Strong engineering fundamentals and ability to pick up new technologies
• Experience with cloud-native or serverless architectures is a bonus
• AWS experience is a bonus
• Experience with DevOps and Infrastructure as Code is a bonus
• Experience building scalable, secure platforms is a bonus

Responsibilities

• Work hands-on on large-scale, business-critical systems
• Join a cross-functional Scrum team alongside Product Managers, UX Designers, Test Analysts and fellow Engineers
• Take ownership of features from initial idea through to production
• Mentor other Developers and share knowledge
• Help raise engineering standards across the team
• Challenge existing approaches and contribute ideas
• Influence technical direction and how the team works
