Job summary

IG Group in London seeks a Senior Software Engineer to advance AI-driven development in the Brokerage Services team. You’ll build tooling that embeds AI into day-to-day engineering, focusing on Java backends and production-grade systems.

This hands-on role expects strong TDD, ownership, and collaboration with product, security, and compliance to ensure safe, scalable AI tooling across Jira, Confluence, and GitLab. Hybrid work with three days in the office.

Qualifications

• Extensive background as a Software Engineer with production systems experience.
• Solid, hands-on expertise in Java or a comparable backend service ecosystem.
• Strong fluency in test-driven development and pair programming as working disciplines.
• Real ownership experience: designed, built, deployed, and supported features in production.
• Genuine appetite for aggressive automation and removing manual steps.
• Experience evaluating or using LLM-based developer tools in a real engineering environment.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain internal tooling that embeds AI into day-to-day engineering work: coding assistants, AI-assisted test generation, deployments, and defect triage.
• Contribute to observability in the AI-assisted pipeline, showing what the tooling is doing, catching, and missing.
• Identify manual steps in coding, testing, and release that can run largely unattended, and help build the automation to get there.
• Split work into small, releasable pieces that ship continuously.
• Collaborate with product to ground work in real delivery.
• Drive improvements in AI adoption and ways of working.
• Work with test and PM to bring AI into the testing pipeline: exploratory test generation, defect clustering, flaky-test detection, smarter test prioritisation.
• Evaluate and roll out LLM-based tools, integrating with Jira, Confluence, and GitLab.
• Follow standards for responsible AI use in the SDLC: data handling, prompt hygiene, guardrails.
• Mentor engineers in effective AI tooling usage.
• Coordinate with security and compliance on regulatory data handling.
• Track metrics like cycle time, defect escape rate, test coverage, and delivery turnaround.
