Job summary

NHS Dumfries and Galloway is seeking an experienced Senior IT Specialist to maintain and support its regional computing, voice, and data infrastructure across a wide network. You will ensure high availability, security and resilience for clinical and corporate systems across the region.

You will act as a technical lead, resolving complex issues escalated from User Support, supporting major systems, and contributing to disaster recovery and continuous service improvement.

Qualifications

• Experience in maintaining complex computing, voice and data infrastructure.
• Ability to lead on major technical issues and mentor colleagues.
• Strong focus on security, availability and resilience of critical systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist support for Local and Wide Area Networks.
• Deliver expert support for server environments (Microsoft Server, VMware, Unix/Linux).
• Manage Cisco network, wireless, telephony and firewall technologies.
• Lead planning, configuration, installation and optimisation of network and server infrastructure.
• Implement and test disaster recovery and backup procedures.
• Monitor and ensure availability, security and performance of IT systems.
• Provide guidance and technical leadership to colleagues.
• Produce and maintain accurate technical documentation and inventories.
• Liaise with contractors and NHS stakeholders for coordinated service delivery.
• Support IT security policies and best practices.
