Job summary

Skipton Building Society is seeking an IT Principal Engineer to lead the Colleague Technology Platform, focusing on Microsoft 365, identity, and end-user devices. You will act as the senior technical authority, shaping architecture and driving agile, secure workplace technology across ~25 engineers.

You’ll partner with Security, Architecture and IT teams to ensure design, deployment and lifecycle practices meet regulatory and business needs while supporting hybrid working and a modern workplace

Qualifications

Expert level knowledge across the full Microsoft 365 ecosystem and identity platforms.
Hands-on experience with PowerShell, Graph API, Intune configuration profiles, Autopilot, and packaging/deployment tooling.
Strong security, identity governance, and conditional access skills.
Proven leadership and mentoring capability for engineering teams.
Robust architecture and design skills for scalable workplace technology.
Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication abilities.

Responsibilities

Serve as the organisation’s leading technical expert across the Microsoft 365 ecosystem and identity platforms.
Set and enforce best-practice standards for identity, security, device management and software deployment.
Provide strategic oversight of Workplace Technology, including end-user devices and lifecycle management.
Define the future state of colleague technology and align with business objectives.
Lead software lifecycle governance including packaging, deployment, monitoring and retirement.
Mentor engineers and drive a culture of continual improvement and learning.
