Job summary

HelloKindred in London is seeking a Senior DevOps / Automation Engineer (IBM Z & Hybrid Platform) to lead automation and modernisation across IBM Z and distributed platforms. This role will design and implement production-grade automation, CI/CD pipelines, compliance controls, observability, and secure orchestration across a global enterprise.

The ideal candidate brings extensive DevOps experience, strong technical leadership, and hands-on expertise in enterprise automation.

Qualifications

10+ years of demonstrable DevOps engineering experience including solution design, governance and implementation of DevOps best practices.
Minimum of 2 years of experience working within an IBM Z environment.
Strong technical leadership experience, including mentoring engineers and promoting engineering excellence.
Hands-on experience with GitHub, Jenkins, Ansible Automation Platform (AAP), Nexus Repository, Python, HashiCorp Vault, and API integration.
Strong Python development skills with production-quality code, testing, logging and error handling.
Experience with Jenkins pipelines using Groovy, YAML automation, and Git-based CI/CD practices.
Knowledge of PostgreSQL schema design, query optimization, and operational data management.
Experience building Grafana dashboards and supporting monitoring and observability initiatives.

Responsibilities

Provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, conduct design reviews, and promote DevOps best practices.
Design and develop production-grade automation using Python and YAML, including testing, logging and resilience.
Develop automation workflows using Ansible Automation Platform across IBM Z and distributed platforms.
Create restartable, idempotent workflows with proper failure handling and retry logic.
Develop GitHub workflows and Jenkins CI/CD pipelines with Groovy and YAML automation.
Integrate automated compliance checks and artefact management via Nexus or equivalent tools.
Assist in designing PostgreSQL schemas and maintaining operational data for reliability and auditability.
Develop Grafana dashboards and integrate logging/metrics with enterprise monitoring tools.
