Job summary

Siemens Energy in the United Kingdom seeks a Senior Primary Design Engineer to contribute to high voltage substation design and development within the Grid Technology division. You will collaborate with engineers and external partners to ensure quality, safety and efficiency across projects.

You will provide technical input for 3D model creation, review design calculations and manage external design resources while mentoring junior engineers and supporting site teams.

Qualifications

• HNC or Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
• Chartered status, or currently working towards completion.
• Minimum of 7 years in Electricity Transmission and Distribution with at least 3 years in the UK Transmission System.
• Strong knowledge of HV substation design standards and health and safety regulations.
• Ability to manage small design teams and mentor junior engineers.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Experience in sustainability and environmental design is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical input for substation designs to support 3D model creation.
• Review and produce primary engineering design calculations, drawings and documents to meet specs and safety standards.
• Manage external design resources, overseeing review and approval of deliverables.
• Offer technical support and guidance to internal and external design engineers.
• Participate in HAZID, HAZOP, and HAZCON meetings to address technical issues.
• Maintain design change control processes and respond to non-conformances.
• Coordinate with various departments and attend site meetings to resolve construction-related issues.
• Assist in the professional development of junior engineering staff.
