Job summary

Deploy Recruitment Group seeks a Senior Primary Design Engineer to lead and deliver high-quality primary engineering designs for HV substations and associated infrastructure. You will mentor junior engineers, interface with clients and project teams, and ensure designs meet standards and safety requirements.

The role requires strong UK/international standards knowledge, proven design leadership, and excellent stakeholder management. A Chartered Engineer status is desirable.

Qualifications

• Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Significant experience in primary design within HV substations (e.g. 33kV-400kV).
• Strong knowledge of UK / international standards and utility requirements.
• Proven ability to lead design tasks and review the work of others.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Chartered or working towards Chartered Engineer status (desirable).

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of primary engineering solutions for HV substations and associated infrastructure.
• Produce and review primary design deliverables including layouts, GA drawings, equipment specifications, and technical reports.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant standards, client specifications, and safety requirements.
• Provide technical guidance, checking, and mentoring to junior engineers.
• Interface with clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
• Support project planning, cost estimates, and risk assessment.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of design processes and standards.
