Job summary

Arup is seeking a highly experienced technical leader to deliver transmission cable system designs for major electricity projects. You will guide HVAC and HVDC cable design, oversee AC/DC, overhead and underground schemes, and uphold IEC/IEEE and national grid standards while mentoring junior engineers.

You will shape best practices, drive risk management, support tendering with cost insights, and lead design reviews.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline; Chartered Engineer status essential.
• Experience in high-voltage transmission cable design (HV/EHV systems).
• Proven track record of leading engineering teams on large-scale projects.
• Strong knowledge of IEC, IEEE standards.
• Working knowledge of design software such as CDEGS, CYMCAP, Comsol, AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

• Define and uphold best-in-class practices for HV cable design across a diverse portfolio of projects.
• Lead design teams with clarity and confidence across AC/DC, overhead and underground schemes.
• Drive risk management and rigorous technical reviews.
• Support tendering with authoritative insight and cost-optimisation strategies.
• Develop talent and mentor junior engineers while representing the organisation in industry forums.
