Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Principal Cable System Design Engineer to lead HV/EHV cable projects within the Transmission & Distribution team. You will drive technical excellence, oversee routing, modelling, and installation methodologies, and engage with clients across the UK and globally.

You will mentor engineers, promote digital delivery, and collaborate with civil, structural, OHL, substation and marine disciplines to deliver integrated, high‑profile energy projects.

Qualifications

• Technical leadership in HV/EHV cable design and delivery.
• Design and installation experience for complex cable systems.
• Knowledge of National Grid TPs, IEC and CIGRÉ guidelines.
• Experience with regulated, quality-assured environments.
• Strong coordination with multidisciplinary teams and senior stakeholders.
• Excellent client-facing and mentorship skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead delivery of large HV/EHV cable projects from concept to completion.
• Oversee routing, burial risk assessments and performance modelling.
• Input into installation methodologies and system integration.
• Validate ampacity, short-circuit, EMC, and thermo-mechanical calculations.
• Engage with clients, provide technical direction and value-engineered solutions.
• Coordinate civil, OHL, substation and marine inputs for integrated design.
• Drive project execution, risk management, and quality reviews.
• Oversee 3rd-party inspections and vendor oversight.
• Mentor team members and support capability growth in cable systems.
• Support business development, bids, and client presentations.
