Job summary

Arup is seeking a highly experienced technical leader to deliver HV cable system designs for major electricity transmission projects in the UK. You will guide design teams, ensure IEC/IEEE conformance, and drive innovation across AC/DC, overhead/underground solutions.

You will mentor engineers, lead technical reviews, and support tendering with cost-optimisation insights. A Chartered Engineer and wide industry knowledge are highly valued.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline; Chartered Engineer status essential.
• Extensive experience in HV/EHV transmission cable design.
• Proven track record of leading engineering teams and delivering large-scale projects.
• Strong knowledge of IEC, IEEE, and relevant standards.
• Working knowledge of advanced design software such as CDEGS, CYMCAP, Comsol, AutoCAD or equivalents.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical delivery of HV cable design across major electricity transmission projects.
• Guide design teams, manage risk, and ensure compliance with standards.
• Support tendering with authoritative insights and cost-optimisation strategies.
• Develop talent and mentor junior engineers; lead technical reviews.
• Represent Arup in industry forums and contribute to technology initiatives.
