Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Principal Cable System Design Engineer to lead HV/EHV cable system design within our Transmission & Distribution team. The role focuses on technical leadership, delivering complex projects, and guiding client engagement across UK and international schemes.

You will drive routing, thermal and electrical modelling, ensure compliance with TPs, IEC, and CIGRÉ standards, and mentor the wider team while contributing to business development and innovation initiatives.

Qualifications

Demonstrated experience as a technical leader in HV/EHV cable system design.
Proven track record in design, specification, and installation of complex cable systems.
In-depth understanding of international and UK standards (National Grid TPs, IEC, CIGRÉ).
Experience in regulated, quality-assured environments—preferably with TSOs/DSOs.

Responsibilities

Lead delivery of large HV/EHV cable projects from concept to completion.
Develop and oversee HV cable system designs including routing and performance modelling.
Provide input into cable system ratings, installation methods, and jointing arrangements.
Coordinate with civil, OHL, substation, and marine inputs for integrated designs.
Drive project execution, manage risks, interfaces and quality reviews.
Oversee 3rd-party inspections, FAT/SAT, and vendor oversight.
