Job summary

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer (HV Cable Design) to join our Transmission & Distribution team. You will design, implement and review high‑voltage transmission cable systems for onshore and offshore projects, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, reliable energy infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering (Bachelors or higher) with relevant professional experience.
• Masters in Electrical Engineering or equivalent is preferred.
• Experience in design of HVAC and HVDC transmission cable systems.
• Experience in design of both onshore and offshore transmission cable systems.
• Experience in design of HV cable transmission systems for UK and Ireland utilities.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to solve complex engineering problems related to transmission power cable systems.
• Excellent written communication skills and ability to handle multiple project tasks.

Responsibilities

• HVAC/HVDC Cable System Design: from conceptualization to implementation for Onshore and Offshore projects.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to integrate HV cables into substations and grid networks.
• Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and cost analyses for transmission cable projects.
• FEED: deliver innovative solutions for cable systems integration into major projects.
• Consenting stage design: interface with civil and environmental teams for compliance.
• Tender/Detail design: develop design from concept to construction detail.
• Troubleshoot transmission cable‑related issues during installation and operation.
• Stay updated on HV cable materials, insulation, and transmission technologies.
• Engage with new challenges and demonstrate effective written reporting.
