Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Senior Cable System Design Engineer to join our Transmission & Distribution team to deliver full lifecycle cable engineering from feasibility through commissioning. You’ll work across multiple voltage levels for diverse clients worldwide, including major infrastructure projects.

You will collaborate with civil, substation, and OHL teams to provide integrated solutions, support FAT/SAT, and ensure compliance with IEC, CIGRÉ, and NG-TPs. Hybrid working options available.

Qualifications

• Experience in Cable System Design Engineering for HV/EHV transmission and distribution projects. FEED experience is essential.
• Understanding of onshore cable routing, cable pulling, burial risk assessments and protection strategies; electromagnetic, thermal, and stability analysis.
• Knowledge of working within IEC, CIGRÉ, NG-TPs standards.
• Experience with cable system ECI engineering, subsea control and electrical solutions, testing and third-party inspection.
• Ideally experience with CYMCAP, WinCable, AutoCAD, Revit, GIS and related tools.

Responsibilities

• Deliver full lifecycle cable engineering packages from feasibility studies to installation support and commissioning.
• Review complex HV cable system designs including route development and burial risk.
• Perform cable rating and system studies such as ampacity, short-circuit forces, thermal stability, EM interference.
• Carry out cable pulling, jointing, cleating, and installation feasibility studies.
• Collaborate with civil, structural, substation and OHL teams for integrated solutions.
• Support interface activity with manufacturers, suppliers and contractors to verify IEC, CIGRÉ, NG-TPs compliance.
• Participate in client meetings, technical workshops and multidisciplinary coordination.
