Job summary

AECOM is seeking an experienced Senior Cable System Design Engineer to join our Transmission & Distribution team in London. You will deliver full lifecycle cable packages and work with operators and developers worldwide on onshore projects.

You’ll review HV designs, perform ampacity, safety, and EMI analyses, and collaborate with civil, substation and OHL teams to deliver integrated solutions. A hybrid work model supports flexibility.

Qualifications

• Experience in Cable System Design Engineering for HV/EHV projects; FEED is essential.
• Understanding of onshore cable routing, burial risk, protection strategies, and electrical calculations.
• Knowledge of IEC, CIGRÉ, NG-TPs standards and interlocking project interfaces.
• Experience with ECI engineering, subsea control, testing, and third-party inspection.
• Proficiency with CYMCAP, WinCable, AutoCAD, Revit, GIS, and related tools.

Responsibilities

• Deliver full lifecycle cable engineering packages from feasibility to commissioning.
• Review HV cable designs including route development, burial, and thermal/EM analyses.
• Carry out cable rating studies: ampacity, short circuit, thermal stability, EMI.
• Coordinate cable pulling, jointing, cleating, and installation feasibility.
• Collaborate with civil/substation/OHL teams for integrated solutions.
• Support third‑party inspection, FAT/SAT, installation and commissioning activities.
• Interface with manufacturers and contractors to verify IEC/CIGRÉ/NG-TPs compliance.
• Participate in client meetings, workshops, HAZID/HAZOP, and multidisciplinary coordination.
