Job summary

The Hireman is a growing, independent tool hire company serving London, the Home Counties and beyond. We’re looking for an experienced hire desk professional who will be the go-to person for our customers and coordinate service delivery from a depot-based office.

You will manage enquiries by phone and email, process hire contracts, and work with workshop and yard teams to keep stock available, while helping identify new business opportunities to support growth.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a hire controller or hire desk, or strong customer service background in tool/plant or logistics.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities for liaising with customers, colleagues and suppliers.
• A solid work history showing commitment, integrity and progression.
• A proactive, customer-focused approach with the ability to multitask in a busy environment.
• Strong IT skills and attention to detail when processing orders.
• A team player who enjoys working collaboratively with others.
• A positive attitude, problem-solving mindset and a good sense of humour.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and provide expert advice on tool and equipment hire.
• Coordinate transport and logistics, acting as a key link between drivers and the depot for efficient scheduling.
• Handle incoming enquiries and orders via phone and email, processing hire contracts, off-hires and exchanges.
• Work with workshop and yard teams to manage stock and equipment availability.
• Contribute to process improvements, automation ideas and smarter ways of working.
• Identify and develop new business opportunities to support growth.
