Job summary

Halton Borough Council is seeking a seasoned Principal Highways Engineer to lead highways development control, provide expert guidance, and ensure compliance with standards on major infrastructure and regeneration projects. The role involves strategic input, coordinating consultants, and engaging with stakeholders across development proposals.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Highways Engineering, Transportation, or related field.
• Chartered status or working towards it with a relevant professional body.
• Extensive experience in a highways engineering environment.
• Experience in Local Authority highways and regeneration/infrastructure projects.
• Excellent report writing and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead response to planning application consultations with highways insights.
• Assess highway modeling, design, and construction proposals.
• Coordinate highways development control procedures.
• Procure and manage specialist consultants.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on highway projects.
• Draft technical reports for senior management and boards.
• Attend meetings, hearings, and court proceedings as needed.
• Act as deputy for the Service Manager when required.
