Job summary

Carrington Blake Recruitment is seeking a Highway Engineer for a role based in the London borough. The position combines 3 days on-site in the borough with 2 days remote working, and focuses on assessing highway impacts of development proposals, managing highway agreements, and delivering works through to adoption.

You will review planning applications and highway designs, manage Section 38/278 schemes, liaise with developers and planning teams, and conduct site inspections to monitor highway

Qualifications

• ONC/HNC in Civil, Highway, Transportation Engineering or related subject.
• Minimum 2 years’ post-graduate experience.
• Experience with Section 38 and Section 278 schemes.
• Knowledge of highways legislation, standards and specifications.
• Experience inspecting/supervising highway works.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Good IT skills, including Word and Excel.
• Full UK driving license or ability to travel across the borough.

Responsibilities

• Review planning applications and highway designs.
• Manage Section 38, Section 278 and Section 184 agreements.
• Liaise with developers, planning and legal teams.
• Conduct site inspections and monitor highway works.
• Prepare technical reports, estimates and correspondence.
• Resolve technical issues and support highway adoption.
• Maintain records and monitor fees, bonds and budgets.
• Provide highways advice on planning applications.
• Review and approve highway designs.
• Manage developer-funded highway works.
• Inspect construction and ensure compliance with standards.
• Negotiate with developers and stakeholders.
• Support highway adoption and asset management.
• Manage multiple cases and projects.
